How A Mom With 2 Kids, 2 Jobs And a 2-Hour Commute
Found Time to Burn The Fat!

Lisa AFTER 7% fat lossThere are many different types of people in this world. Some people see the glass as half full; others as half empty. Some believe that life is a struggle and others feel deep within their hearts that nothing is impossible if you believe.

For the hundreds of thousands of people throughout the world struggling with their weight, many feel that there is nothing they can do about it for a variety of reasons: no time, no motivation, lack of dedication, no access to proper exercise equipment, an inability to cook healthy meals…the list goes on.

But then there’s Lisa...

For a woman named Lisa Lee, burning fat and building muscle was impossible for the longest time. She had the typical excuses. She worked a full day sitting at a desk with an average of a two hour daily commute to work. She struggled to keep two kids happy, healthy and occupied and barely had time to keep up with a house that was slightly better looking than an episode of Hoarders (her words). And if that wasn’t enough, she decided to start a second job which would take up her evenings and weekends, too.

Yes, for Lisa, burning fat, planning menus, squeezing in extra cardio sessions, counting calories, tweaking macros and balancing everything was impossible—until her son’s illness transformed her life.

“Almost three years ago my son was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. At the time, I’m sure I was involved with some sort of weight loss and renewed fitness plan. I always was. My entire adult life was wrought with starts and stops, always driven by vanity - I just wanted to be ‘skinny,’” Lisa explains.

Then one morning soon after her son was diagnosed, she was lying on the floor of her basement trying to do pushups. “I thought to myself, now I will need to be strong physically to care for my son as he gets older - I don’t have a choice,” according to Lisa. She felt both weak and powerless at the same time, but then she decided she would take control over the one thing she could control – her own body. Her mindset changed: being fit wasn’t an option; it was a necessity!

The Discovery of Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle

Lisa discovered Tom Venuto’s Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle program. She even took it one step further and made a life-changing decision to join Tom’s Inner Circle. The support and friendship she found pushed her to start running, and she eventually became quite good at it. “Never did I believe that was possible,” Lisa said.

“Once I completed three 5ks, I decided to do something in honor of my son. I mustered every bit of courage I had and signed up for a sprint distance triathlon. What amazed me was when I told people in the Inner Circle I was doing a triathlon, not a single person laughed at me or questioned my sanity - I found validation in this virtual sanctuary that I don’t always have in ‘real life’.

That support brings tears to my eyes when I think about it. How can people who don’t know I’ve been chubby and out of shape my whole life believe in me so much? If they could believe in me, then of course I had to believe in myself, right?”

The Missing Link: The Fifth Element

Lisa credits the Fifth Element, that missing link from so many other fat loss programs, and believes it was this guiding force of help and support from her fellow Inner Circle peers that drove her weight loss success.

Lisa joined the Summer 2012 Burn the Fat Challenge and was determined to finally make an impact on her weight this time. As she said before, she had to—for herself and her son. She burned 16 pounds of fat and added 10 pounds of muscle during the summer challenge. She had many excuses to stay exactly as she was, but she set some real and powerful, emotionally-charged goals and was driven to succeed.

Amazingly, the triathlon was days after the halfway point of the challenge. Lisa felt that it seemed as if all her stars were aligned, and she was destined for challenge success.

“The experience of this particular challenge was almost surreal,” she said. “I was the girl who ‘tried everything’ to lose weight. When I was 13, I was told that due to a condition that affects my hormones and insulin, I would more than likely always be fat and would have to work very hard to fight it. For far too long it didn’t occur to me that I could fight and WIN the battle. However, once I started along the BFFM route, I realized I didn’t need to give in to genetics and a lifetime of bad habits. I could fight. I could win.”

“During the summer challenge, I set my mind to overcome those obstacles and finally break through to 20% body fat. The doctors made me think that being fat was my only possibility, but I am proving them all wrong day by day.”

Benefits of the Burn The Fat Inner Circle

Lisa credits her hard work and dedication, along with the 24/7 support of the Inner Circle, with her success. “I have been fortunate to have been befriended by unbelievable people in the Inner Circle. They lift me up when I eat something I know darn well I shouldn’t. They cheer me on when I can’t figure out where I’ll draw my energy. They set the example of lifting heavier, running further and pushing harder. I have learned to overcome the impossible and do what needs to be done,” she said.

The 14 weeks of the summer challenge were not easy, according to Lisa. She struggled to stay on track, to stay positive and to do all she needed to do. One of her goals was to keep in good contact with the Inner Circle. She feels that the power and amazing knowledge on this forum is beyond inspiring.

“To be honest, I saw people doing better than me, producing huge losses and gains and truthfully I envied some,” Lisa admits. “But when I was honest with myself, I knew they were working harder than I was, and I needed to step it up. I took the experiences of others and learned from them and applied their lessons to my challenge.”

And during the challenge, Lisa discovered an added benefit—her mental health was vastly improving due to all the changes she was making.

“At the risk of sounding redundant, my experience in this forum and with this particular Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle challenge has been nothing but positive and truly life changing,” according to Lisa.
